FC Dallas won their second straight match against a struggling opponent Saturday night in Frisco as a second-half penalty kick from David Ferreira sent the Red Stripes past the Kansas City Wizards 1-0. Ferreira scored his second penalty kick in as many games in the 58th minute after drawing his own foul from Wizard defender Roger Espinoza.
I haven’t done a Gaffer in a while, partially to the World Cup distraction, partially to other lame excuses. So I figured why not try and get back in the saddle on the holida. It’s been a spectacular World Cup, with some of the craziest stuff I’ve ever seen all happening at once in the quarterfinals. But this is an FCD piece and the focus is the KC Wizards game.
FC Dallas has officially announced what we reported last week, that the July 3rd FCD game against Kansas CIty would air on WFAA Channel 8 with a pre-game show and post game fire works. The event, named Frisco Freedom Fest 2010, also includes a children’s expo and a taste of Frisco on Simpson plaza across the street from Pizza Hut Park.
The dark side to being “Comeback Kids” is that you have to play from behind in order to orchestrate the fantastic finishes that earn the name. The USA was reminded of this lesson Saturday night in Rustenberg, South Africa as they fell to the Black Stars of Ghana 2-1 after extra time.
