FCD Starts Camp

And so begins another year of the glory that is FC Dallas soccer. Ok, so maybe glory is a bit much, but it sure is heck a lot of fun having a top level professional soccer team to follow. I for one remember what it was like to live in the vacuum between the NASL and MLS. I’m thankful every year to have something like FCD to drive me crazy.

120 Fahrenheit: Camp Opening Roster Analysis

February 1st, 2010 . 1:53 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Two of the permanent pages in this site are the FC Dallas Roster and the Roster Dance. The roster is, of course, just a list of the players while the Roster Dance breaks down the team by MLS roster rules showing the generations adidas, senior, and international slots. For most of the season these two features are perfectly adequate to explain the FCD roster situation. Right now however there are a myriad of trialists and player in camp, which FYI opens tonight at 6 PM at Pizza Hut Park, and as well as a group of players missing. Given the chaos I thought it might be worth a more in depth exploration of the situation.

Four Names Missing from Preseason Roster

Preseason starts Monday for the Red Stripes with some interesting trialists.

FC Dallas starts training this Monday, February 1st, with players undergoing physicals in the morning and a 6 PM session that evening on field #4. FCD will then train twice a day for roughly two weeks before going to Orlando to take part in the inaugural Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic. Of much more interest are the four missing names on the announced preseason roster. There are also some interesting trialists listed.

FC Dallas Waives Ray Burse

January 27th, 2010 . 5:39 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Ray Burse (Matt Visinsky, 3rd Degree)FC Dallas has parted ways with their second string goalkeeper, Ray Burse, Jr.. FCD had previously declined the option on Burse’s contract, similarly to Dave van den Bergh. Also similarly to van den Bergh, when contacted last week Burse said he had not received a new contract offer from FCD. According to our sources, FC Dallas has been scouting a keeper in Germany. The waiver of Burse, coming as it does a week from opening of most MLS camps, seems to indicate FCD may be close to signing a new keeper; whether it is this unknown keeper in Germany or some other player remains to be seen.

Michelle Akers Needs Help

January 27th, 2010 . 1:40 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Her ranch that rehabilitates horses was devastated in recent flooding. The best women’s player of all time needs help. Perhaps it’s time for the soccer community to pay her back. I received the follow letter from ex-FC Dallas front office great Shawn McGee who now runs the Atlanta Beat. We’re helping the best way we know how, but spreading the message.

Hyndman: FCD Signing an Attacking Player

January 20th, 2010 . 12:20 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

The following quote ran last Friday in the Dallas Morning News, but never made the on line edition. So I pulled the quote to share it with anyone. Credit to Steve Hunt for it.

Schellas Hyndman on the FC Dallas SuperDraft

January 14th, 2010 . 8:48 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Schellas talked post draft and was willing to go into his draft thinking. There are some interesting answers in there as well as a thought or two on every pick FCD made. The part toward the end about character is VERY interesting. In hind sight we all forgot to take into account the Kevin Grimes factor with Andrew Wiedeman, Hyndman is going to know all about this kid.

Meet Zach Loyd

One of our contributes caught up with FCD’s first round choice Zach Loyd to ask him a few questions and was nice enough to pass it along.
