It’s perhaps not quite as hot today as last week, but there isn’t a cloud in the sky. The normal blue of the Texas sky is a bright blinding almost-white. It feels damn hot since there is no breeze or shade. Hyndman has moved training up a half hour this week. Every coach who has ever been here has done that during the summer. Today’s session is a bit shorter than normal as well.

The word “passion” often appears when the topic is soccer. At its best soccer inspires passion in players and fans all over the world in a way that truly makes the sport unique. Passion from players best manifests itself in a never-say-die attitude, refusing to give in or give up. Every player on the pitch is expected to give until he can give no more. When a player quits, his team suffers.

It is not that Dallas played that much better than they did in the loss to Houston a week ago, it is that the team was successful in the two areas that previously failed them: Finishing Chances and Simple Defending.

Eric Avila’s second half heroics led to a well-earned 2-1 comeback victory for FC Dallas over Columbus Crew Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. With FC Dallas trailing 1-0 deep into the second half, Avila struck gold only four minutes after running onto the pitch, curling a lovely shot inside the far post.
